Ok,
So I was bored and started searching the net for anything on neo-geo homedev, as I personally feel that the future of the system may well be in the homebrew communities hands.

I came across an interview with Oldergames CEO from 2002 where he announced that a game called Super Fighter would be released for Neo-Geo CD. This is of course not news to anyone who has kept up with the scene...But I went to oldergames website and saw that the game was recently ported to GBA, and alluded to possibly other ports.

Then I browsed across their forums and found this very intriging post...

Topic: How's superfighter coming along?

This game still on the cards? I would personally be most interested in a Neo Geo CD copy

Will we see it out this side of 2004?

And heres the reply....

Expect a major announcement (positive of course) regarding
this in 4 months tops. Sorry I can't say more.

We do have a major non-oldergames product coming out
that will be published under my 'Bivins Media' label. I can't
say much on that either, but I can say that it is something
nobody in the world expects to come from us and I've been
developing it for the last 8 months %100 by myself and myself
alone. SF is still definately on Track

So there you go..thats news to me!

Here is a link to the official Super Fighter website for those interested.

and then...
Ok, well I e-mailed the CEO of oldergames and asked him directly for the status on this game and here is exactly what he said...

Hello,

The answer is both good news & bad news.

The good news is we support the NG AES and NGCD just
as much as any consoles that are no longer "mainstream".
SuperFighter is still planned and we plan on making it a
very big release with very distinct changes, AI and new
enhanced graphics.

The bad news here is this: Every time we seem to get a
capable NG programmer on-board they show interest for a
week and get dis-interested. This isn't because the project
is garbage, in fact, I believe when people finally get to
see it they will be quite impressed with the changes we've
planned. Unfourtunately "and this is not universally true
mind you" we keep getting involved with amateur coders who
do not fully understand that a game can't be done in a week,
nor can it be done easily. There is work involved but as we
both know a lot of homebrew programmers will start a project
and never finish it, this has been the case with all of our
current/past NGCD SuperFighter canidates.

I would program this myself but I've already made 2 origional
professional-level game engines, a new pc-cdrom game, a sequel
to weird world and a few other things by myself this year alone.
I also have other ports that have shown more promise in the form
of those on the teams that need I disagreeistance and time.

Fourtunately for the NeoGeo scene we are still willing to
back this project %110 financially, and development-wise,
unfourtunately for OlderGames we have signed up a coder,
given them time and encouragement and backed them with
everything they've requested only to be dissapointed after
months of sacrificing our time to spur the production.

This does not include a half-dozen examples of equipment we've
loaned for development and never seen back which I won't bother
getting into on this reply.

You know our problem now. If you can, find us one or two
solid programmers "not ones who are going to work on it
night and day, but actually do what they can as they can"
who have proven themselves to be professional, and
goal-oriented and maybe an artist or two -- you not only
have my guarantee that SF will come from the grave in a
big way, but it will also challenge Garou MOTW as a solid
fighting game. If you can't find anyone who wants to
seriously make an impact with this project then you know
exactly how I feel after a year of my time being wasted
and about $10,000.00 of my origional development tools
literally "dissapear" to those who I supported. =/

Soo its been over 4 months so I emailed the CEO back and asked about the progress and have yet to get a response..this is kind of disheartening.

Some of the rest of you might want to consider emailing him as well so he will know there IS interest in this game getting ported to the NGCD.

I remember reading about this a very long time ago. Hmmmm.... I wonder if they will ever release the game? The developer was promising excellent graphics, smooth animation, beautiful backgrounds, and long-lasting replay value -- something the original version lacked.

I really hope they can work things out so the game can see the light of day.

That is a bummer.... but they have actual neo CD dev kits?!

Yes.

And its been 6 days and still no response from them on the email i sent them. :-\

Doesn't look too good at this point, maybe if you emailed them and expressed interest BV?

Good idea! Maybe Blue can support the project in some way so the game can finally see the light of day.
