Estimated over 300 titles actually, I'm assuming within the 350+, but never reached 400

You can also add SMS games being that there was an adaptor for the Game Gear...

Oh dangit!!! Technically speaking yes. But bottom line is there was an adaptor that let the Game Gear play SMS games.  :D

Yeah I wouldnt include SMS in this. To be honest, many GG games were ported to SMS overseas (Europe and Brazil) especially a majority of all Sonic games and many others.

Yet it is wishful thinking :)

You was !!

I haven't included variations in the list. Over here we got several games re-released in a brown boxes (called Sega Classics) a bit like the US got the Majesco re-releases.

I started reading this topic again after trying to win Game Gear auctions on eBay. I refuse to pay more than 20 shipped for one (obviously I've not won one yet) simply because of this list. When you separate out all the junk theres < 50 worth playing and the majority of those are sms / mega drive ports or games from that generation that got hacked to bits to fit on a tiny cart. Look at any top ten lists out there and you'll find 60% + fall into this category.

The system hasn't held up well, most need a half dozen or so new capacitors to work correctly and I recall the game gear chewing up batteries. There was a rechargeable battery pack but I'd bet most are shot now too.

I'm still trying to get one so they're not all that bad but in my opinion they're not worth the going rates. The game gear has to have one of the most disappointing libraries from any system Nintendo (excluding virtual boy), sony, Microsoft, or sega has released. On originality alone I could argue the 3d0 or cdi 's game library has the game gear beat.

I have two gamegears and both are in desperate need of capacitors. I haven't mustered up the courage to begin the repair job.

I've seen the youtube videos of it done and they all just used a cheap soldering iron to desolder each lead. I would have figured an expensive desoldering tool would have been required but it looks to be fairly simple. I'd bet its challenging though.

I need to do the same thing to my Turbo Express. I have seen on eBay kits that contain the capacitors for both handhelds.

You can buy capacitors for $.10 each from mcm electronics, however it'd be worth 2.5 times the money just to buy a pack to know what capacitors to order.

I'm low bidding on every gamegear < $20 shipped so I can figure out just how easy / hard recapping one really is.

-so far I've only won games...

Here is a list that I found Googling. Looks like it covers everything. A lot more than is included in any of the kits that I have found. It must be every capacitor on the Game Gear board.

Capacitor list
22uF 6.3V need 4
100uF 6.3V (Audio Quality Capacitors)  need 3
100uF 25V  need 1
100uF 6.3V need 3
33uF 6.3V  need 1
1uF 50V  need 1
22uF 35V  need 2
47uF 4V  need 2
0.47uF 50V  need 2
820uF 6.3V  need 1
10uF 50V  need 3
10uF 16V  need 4
10uF 6.3V need 4
68uF 6.3V  need 1
4.7uF 35V  need 1
100uF 4V  need 1
47uF 6.3V need 2
22uf 50V  need 1

I am really surprised at the prices they are selling the console on eBay. Several years ago they were giving them away. It use to be difficult to find one with the battery covers.

I think different versions of the boards inside the game gear use a slightly different set of capacitors. I'm going to purchase a bunch of those you listed and practice... that is if I ever win something reasonable.

gripe and ye shall receive...

I won one and have high bids on three more all meeting my criteria. It doesn't look like there's a ton of interest in these as the library is mostly garbage but it'll be fun to plunk around in one for a while.

Now if I can find a turbo express or a nomad for $20!! or heck, a lynx......

so now I have two dead game gears and a battery pack with a bunch of capacitors on the way.

Looking in to all this I've found information where people have used ds screens to replace the old gg screen and somehow people have attached an internal rechargeable battery. I may have to buy a few more gg's to experiment with.
