Does GT 64 have ANY relation to Gran Turismo on the Playstation?

I am curious on that.....

well... GT64 was done at the beginning of the gran turismo series.... in fact, I think it came out before..

:lol well I know that Sega GT has no relation

the reason I thought it did is because I remember (back in the day) hearing people state that the Gran Turismo series came from that.
Whether its true or not... I was trying to find out... to either prove or kill the rumor.
