Building a gaming computer.

By the way, OEM hardware generally means it is sold in a bulk type box instead of the consumer box. You can sometimes save a few bucks getting OEM hardware. You won't get a fancy box or instructions, but you can prolly save a bit that way.

I've been browsing amazon for parts, but I am really having trouble differentiating the parts from one another. :-\

I need the motherboard and RAM, having trouble finding the ones I wanted to use. =/

Do research on Newegg, as they have more detailed information on computer parts, THEN price check the parts you want on Amazon.com and/or eBay.com.

That way, you benefit from Newegg's listing of the item, but still make sure you get the best price on the specific items you find that you want to use.

well, thats what I was doing, but I couldn't find the item on amazon that I was looking at on Newegg. =/

Some items are only available on Newegg. For example, the newer WD Velociraptor drives are only available through Newegg atm, not other retailers.

I'm trying to find this on Amazon, having trouble finding it though. I'm probably looking over it or looking in the wrong place, though.

Is this the same thing?

EDIT: Nvm, I have my Mobo and RAM now. All I'm missing is my video card, I think.

Why the card reader?

You'll need a DVD drive just to install the OS.
Because I need a card reader. Better to have one installed than to have to run around looking for my USB reader all the time. =/
I'll have to get a DVD Drive- can't believe it got left out of the build!

But WHY do you need a card reader is what I am asking... I've never seen use for them aside from moving photos from a camera to the PC, but I use a USB cable to do that...

Is there another use you have for the card reader?

I work as a video/picture editor. I usually am only given SD cards, microSD cards, etc.

That makes sense. I was questioning it since you had specified the build as a gaming computer.

well, last time I picked out a computer, I picked it for work purposes and decided that if it could play games, that would be a nice bonus.

This time, I'm building a gaming computer and making it for work purposes as well. :)

Good to know. If that's the case, I think you might want to go with an Intel rig then. It will provide a better upgrade path and usually more processing power for those photo editing suites. Those programs use A LOT of resources.

I use Cyberlink Powerdirector, which runs quite well on my Laptop, so I should be fine. :)

I would still recommend it anyways since you never know if you'll need more than just that program, but shouldn't be too much of a problem if you stick with the current build.

Okay, I have my Tower build complete. For a total of $906 + a little shipping, which, at the moment, isn't too much. I just can't buy anything else this summer. :p

What do you guys think? It's mostly the same build as before, but I'd still like opinions. :)

I need this to keep track of what I'm buying, my Microsoft Works is out, :(

Thrav, since you have a summer job, how is the budget coming on the gaming computer?

SpartanEvolved said that you were having trouble with your mouse that night. I would highly suggest getting a decent gaming mouse. The Logitech MX518 would be a good idea. Considering you're on your way to building a gaming rig, it is a low cost plunge you can take in that direction.
