FAQ for detecting Bootleg Neo CD's
« on: October 05, 2004, 05:38:42 PM »
I have one in the works right now.  I will have detailed pics...etc.... why?  Because I basically hit upon 15 of them not that long ago.

After I get this page done... these boots are being destroyed.

but I wanted to make the page for you all so you know how to tell the difference.

It'll be up tonight or tomorrow (I hope).... if not... next weekend

the bootleg FAQ is here:
http://www.egameaddiction.com/neogeocd/reviews/faq/bootlegfaq.html

Does anyone know anything else that should be added?
Or do you see something that should be changed that would make the FAQ more understandable?

If so, post it up :)

Are all the images shown of bootleg discs?  I would try label the pictures 01 and 02 whether they are bootleg or not.  If both images shown are bootlegs, I would try to show a legit disc, so people can see the differences easier.

Judging from the evidence, I think I had a boot Flying Power Disk sometime back..... sold it though.

It just never looked right to me, and it had what appeared to be sun fading on the back of the instruction booklet.

I just found a Samurai Shodown 3 Bootleg WITH SPINE.

One of the better bootlegged CD's that I have seen.... done pretty well and almost slipped by my at a glance.
The manual is not well done though... and it was an apparent boot when I checked that out.

I'll be posting this info up in the bootleg FAQ in awhile.

well...  I am going to be adding the FAQ pretty soon, and its an ongoing work.

What I can do is offer space up on this site for the French Translation.... at this time, I don't want the FAQ hosted on other sites.

Maybe in the future when I get closer to being done with it... I won't care as much :)  But we'll see then.  IF you would like to help make a French translation for this site, I am all for it.  you can link to it from your site... and you will be credited for the work..etc.

I hope this helps.

Hello

Ok send me your new text and i translet it
unfortunately, I do not have it all compiled down yet.

I just received 2 more boots, and boot spine that I am going to be including in the next update.... so I don't have that update yet.

you will have to go off of the site for now.  I won't have time for a couple days to get the FAQ going.  After you do the translation... you can send it on over via email... and I'll set up the translated page.

If others would like to do more translations, please let me know.

I am going to be updating new pics of what I found, plus pics of what "good" games look like..etc.

This guide helped me A LOT to recognize a few bootleg NGCD games I (accidentaly) bought this week.

I bought a lot/pack of 21 NGCD games and 3 of them were boots.

It's hard to say if the game is legit or not just by staring at its cover .Unfortunately, I can't buy a NGCD anymore before asking about the 'bar code' pressed in each original cd. That's a vital question.

2 questions about bootlegs:

1. The holographic barcode test seems to be foolproof, correct?
(full Holographic bar CODE = genuine, holographic solid BAR = bootleg)

2. I read on another forum about some Neo CD bootlegs which have PART holographic bar CODE and part SOLID BAR!
     Anybody encountered one of those?

.

Extremely late post...  sorry I haven't done as much with this place...

1.)  Yes, This seems to be the most fool proof method.

2.) I have seen the solid bar, but I do not remember seeing part of the holographic bar code on it.  I believe I've only seen a solid bar.

I am extremely happy this helped you... there's nothing worse than receiving worthless copies when paying for originals... it is frustrating.  That's exactly why I wrote this.  I ended up with 12-16 bootlegged Neo Geo CD games :(
