PC Games Discussion / Icey
« on: October 24, 2017, 12:45:54 AM »
So this game on's a short romp, hack & slash style game.. but more..

It has beautiful graphics, old school sprites, but in HD.

The music is fast and the gameplay is fluid.  Upgrades are plentiful.

But, the narrator...the narrator will tell you to follow the arrows, even though he forgot that he programmed a dead end.  If you disobey and try to make your own path, you may find money for upgrades, or the narrator may spitefully restart the level or even start you in a different one of his games.

This game is an entertaining romp.  I beat it over the course of a weekend (bought it Friday, beat it Monday), but it has left an impression.  I hope to see more of Icey (or Ucey)!

Playstation 3 / PS4 Star Wars Battlefront
« on: September 03, 2017, 10:27:20 AM »
I was over at a friend's house last night and played some of EA's Star Wars Battlefront.  It looks like some good stuff!

I really need to reprioritize time and money for gaming to get on that wagon though!

PC Games Discussion / #starcraftmepizza
« on: August 13, 2017, 03:46:32 PM »
So, StarCraft: Brood Wars is being remastered and released by Blizzard this year!  They have a free pizza LAN party contest happening too!

This Kotaku article touts that the Nova missions in StarCraft II are Blizzard's way of making up for never releasing StarCraft: Ghost back in the old Xbox days.  Any thoughts?

I have yet to purchase the Nova missions, though I have been tempted...

General Discussion / Castlevania miniseries
« on: July 10, 2017, 09:39:45 AM »
Netflix has a four episode miniseries based on the old school Castlevania storyline from III and SOTN.  The focus is on a drunk Trevor Belmont.  It is pretty good so far!

General Discussion / What games have you all beaten this year?
« on: September 18, 2015, 11:05:46 PM »
During 2015, besides moving (back) and working three jobs, I have found time to beat a few games...

Crysis 2
Transformers: Fall of Cybertron
Shadow of Mordor

Besides some random StarCraft II, I think those are about all I have had time to play this year.

Anyone else beating any single-player adventures?

I just finished the Steam version of this game... Gratuitous violence at its best!

Xbox 360 / Destiny
« on: January 12, 2015, 01:28:15 AM »
I finally picked up Destiny for the Xbox 360.  It seemed impressive and solid the first few hours.  Eventually, the enemies constantly respawning started to get a bit tedious.  The loot system reminds me of Diablo or even Borderlands where you look over so many pieces of equipment to upgrade to something one or two points better than the gear you previously had.

I have not gotten into the Crucible yet, which I hear is more heavily reminiscent of Halo, but after one night, I am not as impressed as I had hoped to be.

General Discussion / Kids react to NES

Wow, it is sad that there are kids who grew up not knowing what an NES was...

General Discussion / Happy Thanksgiving 2014
« on: November 28, 2014, 04:58:10 AM »
It has been a strange year with many changes.

I have celebrated 10 years with Renee this year, changed careers, and made an attempt to move.

I have also lost some very special pets to age and illness, wrecked my car, and made some difficult life decisions.

I am, however, thankful that I got to spend some time with some of the EGA crew (Bluevoodu, MasterMario, and SpartanEvolved) and broke out some Halo: Reach and Gears of War 3 on the xbox 360s for a nice old school console LAN this holiday!

Hopefully this winter, steam sales, and new video game gifts will give us all some more to be thankful for over the next year! :D

Xbox 360 / Halo: Master Cheif Collection for Xbox One
« on: June 10, 2014, 12:02:10 PM »
343 is putting Halo: CE Anniversary, Halo 2, Halo 3, and Halo 4 all into one combined package to be released for Xbox One!

General Discussion / Excavation confirms Atari buried ET games
« on: April 27, 2014, 12:23:24 PM »

A New Mexico landfill is being excavated to confirm that Atari did bury an overstock of unsold 2600 games back in 1983.  This supports the old story that Atari did almost destroy the video game market with the release of the ET videogame.

General Discussion / Friday night gaming
« on: April 11, 2014, 08:40:51 PM »
Since I am on-call for work and cannot really make plans to go out, I figured I could spend my Friday playing some games.  The question is, which?

Xbox 360 / Bonus! Oblivion and Fallout!
« on: April 04, 2014, 07:08:02 PM »

Deathmonkey had copies of Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion & Fallout 3 that he let me & Renee have.  I guess if I am occupied on the 360, she can continue to play Skyrim on my PC.

(Of course, I still gotta finish Halo ODST and Reach before starting new 360 games.)

General Discussion / What system(s) are you using now? (2014)
« on: February 14, 2014, 09:00:29 AM »
Since we're at a point that is bridging the seventh and eight generations of game consoles, which one(s) are EGA members still using?  I was a little late to the party buying the PS3, though I got it before the PS4 was released.  I was really late buying my 360 and PSP, but am still getting some play time out of them.

I have seen a bit of gameplay on the Wii U and on the PS4, but probably will not be buying an eighth generation console for a while yet.  So what systems are EGA members using now, at the beginning of 2014?

PC Games Discussion / Battlefield 4
« on: January 16, 2014, 09:52:21 PM »
Since MasterMario and SpartanEvolved suggested it, I ordered Battlefield 4.  I'll have to let you all know how it is after I get it installed and get some play time on it.

PC Games Discussion / Far Cry 2
« on: January 11, 2014, 04:28:19 PM »
I had a copy of Far Cry 2 gifted to me after Black Friday a few years ago, but had never finished the game back then.  I reinstalled it and have played through a couple of hours.  At this point, I am trying to decide if I want to keep playing through.

The game does have good graphics for being a few years old, but does it have anything unique to the gameplay?  Up against modern FPS games, is it a bit on the white bread generic side?

I will either be on Steam or PSN pretty much most of this weekend.  My tags on Steam and PSN are both the same, Grindspine.

General Discussion / Steam Machine is happening!
« on: January 09, 2014, 03:41:36 AM »

It appears that Valve has worked with Alienware on making a Steam-oriented console to be released in 2014...

From what the CES review article states, this is going to be a console for the living room environment--Alienware and Valve were careful to work thermal management and low noise into a machine touted to meet or exceed the standards set by the PS4 and XboxOne.

If the Alienware Steam Machine gets too high in price, there will be an option of the Aurora X51 with a Steam OS as a more budget-conscious version.

Xbox 360 / Halo discussion!
« on: December 29, 2013, 07:38:26 PM »
So I have now beaten Halo 1, 2, 3, ODST, Reach, and 4.  I remember playing (and replaying) hours on Halo: Combat Evolved when my room mate got an Xbox; 4-player split-screen was awesome in that game.

I played the heck out of Halo 2 campaign as well.  Sure, it lacked the magnum, but the variations in dual wielding and the addition of the energy sword made up for it.  Being able to cloak and/or play as the Arbiter did not hurt either.

Bluevoodu, SpartanEvolved, MasterMario, and I set up two HDTVs and played four player co-op ODST in one sitting, start to finish on legendary difficulty.  Good times were had with the ability to pull turrets off their mounts!

SpartanEvolved, MasterMario, and I tried to play through some of Halo 3 co-op a few years ago, but MM kept falling asleep.  So it was not until now that I have finally beaten the campaign and finished the original trilogy.  The Gravemind is creepier than ever.  The deep, flood infested parts of High Charity remind me both of the classic NES game Life Force and a bit of the movie Aliens.

DeathMonkey and I finished Reach in October 2010.  I think that Bungie nailed all of my expectations for that game.  It was epic being able to go back and play the events that led to the, "fall of Reach," so often referenced in the franchise's dialog.  I have never enjoyed a game so much when I knew the end of the game was utter defeat.

Halo 4 is a good attempt at a follow-up to Bungie's work with solid controls and gameplay.  The overall storyline and new weapons did not exceed my expecations though.  I do still need to log some Live play time with the game before writing it off as inferior though.

What're your Halo memories?  Which game is or was your favorite?

PS Vita and PSP Handheld / 3rd Birthday
« on: December 25, 2013, 02:00:57 AM »

Renee snagged me a copy of 3rd Birthday for PSP for Christmas!

Anyone else played this Parasite Eve offshoot?

So far, the cinematics, voice acting, sound, and graphics are spot-on.  The story is a little abstract, but the overall gameplay with some shooter elements actually works pretty well with the PSP's controls!  I'm enjoying it so far.  I kept playing 'til I got killed while escaping a reaper in chapter 2.

General Discussion / Black Friday - Cyber Monday
« on: December 05, 2013, 01:45:29 PM »
So, did anyone score any Black Friday - Cyber Monday deals?

I scored The Last of Us and Call of Duty: Ghosts for PS3, a Seagate SSD to replace the boot drive on my PC, a 250 GB Xbox 360 with Halo 4, and a PSP with Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles, which my girlfriend bought for me!

So, if ya'll don't hear from me, I'm busy playing games!

General Discussion / Happy Halloween 2013!!
« on: October 31, 2013, 11:42:10 PM »
Happy Halloween, all!

I feel kinda like PacMan after eating some delicious ghost truffles...

I did manage to get some Halloween gaming into my schedule with TF2's Scream Fortress event, some Dawnguard quests of Skyrim, and even broke out Maximo: Ghosts to Glory on the PS2...  After about twenty minutes of playing, I realize why I never finished that game..
