Old'd.  :lol Just kidding.

I read about that the other day, didn't bother to post it though. Almost a shame, but like the article said, it isn't really that necessary anymore.

How do you figure? So much information and publicity come about due to this show.

I'm very, VERY curious as to which "hardware manufacturers" were attempting to withdraw from E3. Very interested.

I agree that its kinda sad. I had always wanted to go. But, its just a business and everyone is looking to maximize their profits. Maybe if companies like EA (who I tend to have a little resentment for) don't have to waste time and money on making demos to showcase, they can make better games. Of course, the same applies to all companies.

*sigh*

I'm actually quite displeased to hear this. The "Mega-show" atmosphere was always what made it such an exciting event to witness. If it's just going to be another conference... why have it at all?

I agree. The sheer volume of news and anticipation, not to mention valuble hype, that builds from E3 is staggering. The "hardware manufacturers" that backed down from this.. that brings me to curiosity. I know it certainly wasnt' Nintendo.. they've had years of E3. Sony's public image was shattered just recently.. a thought.

E3 Show gets serious downsizing..
« Reply #10 on: August 01, 2006, 04:22:41 PM »
ESA president Douglas Lowenstein confirmed that next year's E3 will be moved from May to July, the event will no longer be held at the LA Convention Center, instead it will take place inside hotel conference rooms in the city. The size of the event will be significantly reduced from 60,000 to 5000 attendees, and targeting people from the industry. The reason is to give publishers more time to polish their holiday releases, and allow exhibitors to present their products / messages to specific targets. Lowenstein said "It is no longer necessary or efficient to have a single industry 'mega-show'. By refocusing on a highly targeted event, we think we can do a better job serving our members and the industry as a whole, and our members are energized about creating this new E3."

to sum it up... I think they lost money on the last show :lol

OR.. maybe developers threatened to walk if they didn't change the format... for whatever reasons?

Which developers..? That's the important part. I read initial reports that indicated it was "hardware manufacturers" (unspecified) who were unhappy, and thusly so without the help of the "major hardware manufacturers" it would be "not worthwhile". Curiosity, for sure ensues...

ESA is unlikely to lose money on this show. ESA, however, IS susceptible from outside influence.

Man that really sucks.

Every man, woman, and child that enjoys videogames looks forward to this show.  Now it's gone because companies think it's a waste of time.

I think Sony just got tired of Nintendo having a better showing the last two years. ;)

But seriously, there was a rumor last year that Sony didn't want to do E3 anymore. I just thought it was a rumor but now...hmmm.  :lol

Personally, I'd rather have all of the information with none of the circus.
