The X-Box 360 has often been described as the epitome and house to the greatest shooters that we know. Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare further emphasizes that philosophy. Although it is available on Playstation 3, it plays just as well on the 360 and is a great game for all gamers to have on their shelves. So strap up, gear up, and grab your rifle. This game is one crazy ride.
Infinity Ward Released 2007 Number of players: 1-4 (X-Box LIVE enabled)
Graphics:
I can honestly say that Modern Warfare has been the most graphically impressive game that my eyes have had the pleasure to witness. Every detail is seemingly flawless. Loading sequences flow smoothly, grenade bursts are realistic, and tanks look as real as can it get. The graphics alone set the game apart from other shooters. The sprint sequences make the camera shake, much like it would in real life. The main thing to notice here is that nothing is otherworldly, unrealistic, or surreal. It’s all real things that really happen. Infinity Ward made the graphics as superior as it gets. I give graphics a:
10/10
Sound:
This is another highly astonishing aspect of this game. The sounds of everything is vivid, clear, and once again, realistic. From the high frequency sniper rounds, to the enemies screaming in agony as you put a knife in their skull, the sound is spectacular. As custom would dictate with such a marvelous game, a great score comes equipped. The music fits to the type of environment and setting you’re in. It’s quiet on stealthy missions and fast with pounding drums on fast paced missions. The sounds co-exist perfectly. I give the sound a:
10/10
Gameplay:
The gameplay is astounding. Unlike other run-and-gun shooters, this game requires you to think like a soldier. You have to take cover, provide air support (yes, there is a mission where you are in an airplane and you have to dish out punishment from above), and snipe enemies. You’ll play as two different people throughout the game; Sgt. Paul Johnson, a United States Marine soldier, and Soap McTavish, an S.A.S. operative. You’ll alternate throughout the game as these two soldiers. Now, the campaign is one thing. The multiplayer is the other great part about this game. When you play the multiplayer, usually you’ll receive around 10 points for killing somebody (it depends on the game variant) and these points go towards your rank online. Much like games like Halo, you’ll have military ranks to go through such as sergeant, lieutenant, and captain. As you progress through these ranks, you’ll unlock new weapons to use in combat, accessories for your weapons, and perks. Perks allow you to have extra health, better precision aiming, and last stand. Last stand allows you not die instantly, but be on the brink of death and get the chance to fire your sidearm at people in an attempt to kill them. It’s one of the many perks you’ll unlock. All in all, the game racks up fun points in both single and multiplayer. I give the gameplay a:
10/10
Difficulty:
The difficulty of this game depends on the level of difficulty you play on. Easy and normal really aren’t much of a challenge. But, veteran is entirely difficult. You’ll find yourself dying left and right from the incredibly intense gameplay and the highly intelligent enemy A.I. As far as multiplayer, it’s always a different experience. You may have a great game with hardly any challenge at all, or you may face incredibly difficult players and barriers. The higher the score, the harder it is:
8/10
Replay Value:
The game is definitely worth going back and playing through again. There are many hidden things to find, or “Intel”. You’ll unlock achievements for finding them. You’ll also find a variety of achievements for defeating the game on the Veteran setting. Modern Warfare never gets old or boring. I give replay value a:
9/10
Overall:
If you are looking for a game with unlimited fun and action, with addicting online play, COD4 is your game. As evident in my review, I don’t find any flaws with the game. Modern Warfare has just upped the standards for warfare games and has not disappointed at all. From start to finish you’ll want more and more. I give Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare a:
9.5/10
